TNT logistics in the UK has recently been awarded a five year contract to operate home delivery services for the recently launched Tesco Direct. The nationwide delivery service will use Tesco Direct vehicles along with TNT Logistics TNT Home fleet, which already delivers goods from other service providers.
Tesco Direct says that TNT Logistics long standing record for home delivery is one of the key reasons for handing them the contract. “They are the ideal logistics partner for us as they have the expertise we require to ensure the deliveries are made as promised to our customers. In addition, through the use of the TNT Home fleet, they give us the flexibility to grow the business in a cost-effective way. As with all parts of the Tesco business, the focus upon customer service is paramount, and TNT have demonstrated an enthusiasm to work with us to make the customer experience amongst the best in the market” said Neil Ashworth supply chain director at Tesco.com. Tesco Direct at the launch will offer about 8000 products, out of which at least 1000 would require the 2 man home delivery service – from sofas to wardrobes and outdoor play equipment and full size home gyms.
The logistics operation for Tesco will be run out of the brand new 38,000 square meter National Distribution centre at Crewe which TNT will manage on Tesco’s behalf and make use of six home delivery platforms from Glasgow to Exeter.
