If you have a 4×4, you probably know the joys of “off roading”.Driving in to jungles, through muddy areas, sandy areas, water logged areas etc. is a joy that only some appreciate. Most of this fun is made possible by the tires on the 4×4 vehicle. Specifically, they are known as off road truck tires.
These tires are sometimes called otr tires or Off The Road tires and are specifically geared for rough terrain. The tires are extremely tough and provide grip for the vehicle in situations where a man would struggle to walk. As you have probably gathered, these tires are not for everyone or rather ever vehicle. They should only be used in circumstances where they are required, because they tend to be inefficient in other circumstances like driving on asphalt surfaces or tarred roads. This is because the tread pattern on the tire is not designed for smooth surfaces and a as a result becomes somewhat slippery.
If you constantly move in and out of rough terrain, you should consider all terrain tires as your pickup truck tires. But if you live in a city or developed suburbs you should stick to all-purpose tires which do best on street surfaces. If you want go exploring in extreme areas, think about the terrain first and choose your tires accordingly. Sometimes, narrow OTR tires are required and sometimes fatter or wider OTR tires are required. You should also pay close attention to the profile of the tire and the toughness of the rubber.
